Your rolling 180-day window
Inside Outside
Your dates stay in this browser. They never pass through any server of ours.
You have just done this by hand, and it is only true today
The app recalculates it every day from where you have actually been, and warns you before you go over.
How the 90/180 rule works
It is not 90 days per half-year or per year: the window moves with you. For each day you are in Schengen, the 180 days before that day are examined, that day included. If you have been inside for 90 of them, you cannot be there that day.
The day you enter and the day you leave both count in full. And the days come back one at a time: every day that drops out of the back of the window becomes available again.
Do not confuse the two
Schengen is not tax residency. It is a stay limit for people entering without a visa. You can be within 90/180 and be tax resident somewhere else, or go past 183 days in a country and still be within 90/180. They are two different counts and this tool only does one.
- Do the day of entry and the day of exit count?
- Yes, both of them and in full, even if you arrive at midnight or leave at dawn. A stay from the 1st to the 3rd is three days.
- Do the 90 days reset every six months?
- No. The window moves with you: each day, the 180 days before it are examined. Days you have spent expire one by one, 180 days after you spent them.
- Does this work for tax residency?
- No. Schengen is a stay limit for people entering without a visa, and tax residency is a different count, with a different threshold and a different window, different in every country.
