Tax residency in Israel: the 183-day rule

High confidenceReviewed in September 2026

The short answer

183days in calendar year
Window

How it counts
Any presence during the day

Reaching the threshold makes you resident

How the days are counted

183 days in the calendar year, counting any part of a day. There is a second presumption this counter does not cover: 30 days this year and 425 adding this year and the two before it. Both are presumptions that can be rebutted in either direction around the real test, the centre of life: you can pass 183 days and not be resident, or fall short and be resident.

The count does not decide on its own.
